ABOUT US

Marty grew up in Puerto Cortes, Honduras as a Missionary Kid along with Bruce Howell, his first cousin and Paul Howell his brother, who are both missionaries at present, Paul in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and Bruce in Mar de Plata, Argentina.  All three went to Tennessee Temple University in the 1970's and that is where Marty met Cheryl Orndorff and were married in 1980 at the Sharon Baptist Church, Sharon, Pa., where later Marty was ordained and both were commissioned to leave as missionaries to Honduras.  In 1985 they arrived in Honduras in Puerto Cortés, to establish the Bethel Ind. Baptist Church after starting a Spanish work in the Maranatha Baptist Church of McAllen, Texas near where Cheryl was taking Spanish classes.  In 1993 the Howells turned the Bethel Ind. Baptist Church of Puerto Cortés over to four ordained Honduran pastors that Marty had trained in discipleship starting in 1985.  In 1994 one of these pastors, Carlos Estrada left with Marty and started the Lighthouse Ind. Baptist Church of San Pedro Sula, Honduras and this was organized in 2000.  One year later the Howells were recomissioned by the Gospel Baptist Church of Bonita Springs, Florida and started the Gethsemani Ind. Baptist Church.  They are still in San Pedro Sula establishing this work nine years later.  The Howells have three children.  Amber, a graduate from Bob Jones University married John Vance who pastors with his dad at the Gunnery Road Baptist Church in Lehigh Acres, Florida and they have three children, Jonathan, Joseph, and Javin, with a fourth coming who will be named Jackson.  April is a graduate of Bob Jones University and is a graphic designer and photographer living in the Greenville, SC area.  Erik is finishing his first year at Bob Jones University majoring in secondary education.  He has expressed the desire to return to Honduras to serve the Lord there.
